Canadian International Development Agency, Kosovo
NOTRA was the Prime contractor in a consortium, responsible to the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), for the provision of a self-sufficient mine/UXO clearance capability, known as the Mine Action Composite Force (MACF), in Kosovo.
Specifically, NOTRA’s MACF consisted of a Project Management Team, a mine detection dog team, an explosive ordnance disposal team and a mechanical system (mini-flail) clearance team. NOTRA’s team represented CIDA’s contribution to the United Nations Mine Action Center (UNMAC).
In cooperation with CIDA and the UNMAC, NOTRA was responsible for assembling, training, deploying and supervising sufficient capacity and mine action expertise to successfully conduct mine and UXO clearance tasks within Kosovo, over a six month period.
The project was an ambitious and productive undertaking that provided the UNMAC with key resources to support the very successful clearance program. The underlying goals and objectives of the project were accomplished and the concept of deploying an integrated mine/UXO clearance capability was validated. Of particular note, the UNMAC applauded NOTRA for its innovative and effective use of field camps to support remote clearance sites. The UNMAC has now recommended this approach for use on future remote clearance operations.
Canada, CIDA and NOTRA were commended for the provision of vital core assets to the UNMAC.
