Geophysical Survey, CFB Suffield,
Alberta
NOTRA was contracted by the Department of National Defence to provide geophysical survey, investigation and interpretation services to Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) at CFB Suffield, Alberta to conduct a Level 1 UXO identification and Geophysical Survey at the Experimental Proving Grounds, CFB Suffield.
A Level 1 UXO Identification survey was conducted first to identify the survey areas and all surface metals and debris that would interfere with the Geophysical data collection. All surface items were recorded and removed from the site by DRDC personnel as part of a Level 1 Clearance operation.
The purpose of the Geophysical Survey was to locate and define possible concerns associated with burial of munitions and related products. NOTRA conducted apparent conductivity (EM31) and metallic (EM61) surveys to help define the extent of possible contamination. At many of the locations an elevated conductive trend was noted in the field.
Following the collection, processing and analysis of the geophysical survey data, NOTRA produced level 3 UXO identification and geo-referencing maps and anomaly location tables for each site.
Based on the results, recommendations were developed for each of the sites. Specifically, the location of anomalies and potential areas of environmental concern and in some cases, a proposed follow-on action approach, were identified.
