Underwater Geophysical Survey, CFB Petawawa, Ontario
NOTRA was contracted by Defence Construction Canada to conduct a geophysical and calibration grid survey of approximately 140 ha of underwater area along the CFB Petawawa shoreline. The objective of the survey was to characterize the types, density and location of Unexploded Explosive Ordnance (UXO) impact areas.

Following the collection, processing and analysis of the geophysical survey data, twenty (20) calibration grids sites were established along the shoreline and beaches for further detailed investigation.

The purpose of the Calibration Grid survey was to identify the number of targets, the number of munition related targets, the number of non-munition related targets and the number of UXO/duds within the twenty (20) Calibration Grids, to a maximum depth of 1.5 meters.

Once data was collected, summarized and analyzed, NOTRA prepared project extrapolations for each impact area. Project extrapolations were used to predict the total number of munitions related targets, non-munitions related targets and UXO/duds within the entire 140 ha area.
